Espirit de Femme pic 1BATON ROUGE – Every March, LSU recognizes Women’s History Month by honoring and celebrating women from all walks of life. Part of the month-long celebration is the LSU Women’s Center’s annual Esprit de Femme Awards Sunrise Celebration, where the LSU Women’s Center will honor the 2014 recipients of the Esprit de Femme and Men Who Champion Women awards on Thursday, March 27, at the Renaissance Hotel Baton Rouge.

Established in 2009, the Esprit de Femme award is an annual acknowledgement of a person who has made exceptional efforts toward the advancement of women in Louisiana. This award honors individuals who elevate the status of women in the community through their contributions to the arts, education, healthcare, business and industry, charity and civic engagement. This is the second year that the award will be presented at the Sunrise Celebration.

The 2014 Esprit de Femme awards will be presented to eight deserving recipients. These recipients are Sylvia Duke, Elain Ellerbe, Donna Fraiche, Rose Hudson, Laura Lindsay, Annette Mire, Terri Sterling and Lauren Thom. The 2014 Men Who Champion Women award will be presented to Bradie James.

Bradie James founded Foundation 56 in 2007 to help stamp out breast cancer following the death of his mother. To date, Foundation 56 has donated more than half a million dollars for breast cancer prevention, screenings and treatment. Foundation 56 has contributed to funding mobile mammogram units to serve communities in South Louisiana and North Texas. James was named the 2012 LSU Young Alumnus of the Year. While at LSU, James was an outstanding member of the football team. He went on to be a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for the Esprit de Femme Awards Sunrise Celebration. Packages range from $500 for a table sponsorship to $5,000 for the title sponsorship. The packages include recognition in the event program, recognition on the LSU Women’s Center website, tickets to the event and more.

In addition to the Esprit de Femme Awards Sunrise Celebration, the LSU Women’s Center is also involved in several signature programs and initiatives, including the annual Take Back the Night candlelight vigil and march, Women’s History Month programming and the Healthy Masculinity Initiative.
